How to archive or restore a Department

How to archive a Department

Archiving a department in Planday is easy, but it’s important to proceed carefully, as this action impacts schedules and shifts. Here's how:

  1. Go to People > Departments.

  2. Select the department you wish to remove by clicking the Edit button.

  3. Click the Archive button. Confirm your choice in the pop-up by clicking Archive again or Cancel to stop the action.

Important:

  • Review all schedules linked to the department before archiving it to avoid losing important data.

  • Archiving a department will remove its schedules and associated information.

  • Shifts will not be deleted; they will remain visible under each employee’s profile in the Shifts tab.


How to restore a previously archived Department

If a department has been archived, you can restore it at any time:

  1. Go to People > Departments.

  2. Click the Restore Department button, located next to the Create Department button.

Options during restoration:

  • Keep employee memberships: Select this to restore employees to the department along with their previous schedules.

  • If you don’t select this, employees will not be re-added to the department. Their previous shifts will remain visible in the schedule but appear crossed out until they are manually reassigned.

Department limits based on subscription plans:

  • Starter Plan: Limited to one department.

  • Plus and Pro Plans: Support up to five or more departments.
